800 Eighth Graders Attend 'Youth Summit 2014'

  • Frankie Debusk, Tusculum College athletic director, addresses more than 800 eighth graders at Youth Summit 2014. The Volunteer Center of the Greeneville-Greene County hosted the 12th annual event at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center on Tuesday. Attendees from 11 local elementary and middle schools heard inspirational talks from various speakers, including Miss Tennessee Shelby Thompson, Greeneville Mayor W.T. Daniels, Greene County Mayor Alan Broyles, Greene County Juvenile Court Judge Kenneth Bailey and Dr. Steven Loyd. Loyd is chief of staff of education of the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a former substance abuse addict. Other program participants included the Greeneville Middle School band under the direction of Rachel Martin, Greeneville High School ROTC, GHS chorus directed by Kathy May and emcee Brian Cutshall, a former volunteer center president.
